# Sociaal statuut

In tegenstelling tot werknemers, zal je als zelfstandige zelf voor je sociale rechten moeten zorgen. Je bent dus ook als zelfstandige onderworpen aan een sociaal statuut. Dit betekent dat je als zelfstandige een aantal verplichtingen zult hebben, maar in bepaalde gevallen zal je ook extra rechten opbouwen. 

## Wat zijn mijn verplichtingen als zelfstandige?

Je moet als zelfstandige: 

* Aangesloten zijn bij een sociaal verzekeringsfonds
* Op kwartaalbasis je sociale bijdragen betalen

## Welke sociale rechten bouw ik op als zelfstandige?

Zelfstandigen in hoofdberoep en meewerkende echtgenoten bouwen met de betaling van de sociale bijdragen een aantal rechten op, namelijk: 

* Pensioen
* Moeder- en vaderschapsverlof
* Gezinsbijslag
* Adoptiepremie en/of adoptieverlof
* Vergoeding arbeidsongeschiktheid wanneer je minstens 8 dagen geen activiteiten hebt kunnen uitvoeren
* Financiële steun voor medische kosten via je ziekenfonds
* enz.

Een zelfstandige in bijberoep of student-zelfstandige bouwt geen extra rechten op via de betaalde sociale bijdragen.
